Improve Purchasing Results with APS Tools

Date: 11/01/2005

Every new member of the American Purchasing Society receives more than a dozen highly valuable sheets of information. Keep these sheets available to make it easy to achieve better purchasing results.

For example, suppose you are interested in obtaining price reductions from your suppliers. There is no doubt you will think of one, two, or three ways to do so. Given time you may come up with a dozen or more, but why tax your brain? Just pull out the sheet we sent you, "21 Ways to Get a Price Reduction."

Or suppose you are trying to buy a certain product, but you only receive one bid. Simply pull out the sheet entitled "What to do when you only receive one bid."

If you are the purchasing manager and are trying to teach your buyers what to tell and not tell a supplier, pull out the sheet "Information You Shouldn’t Give a Supplier." It not only is a list of the things that should not be said, it also explains why.

Here are some of the other sheets that are sent to every new member.

"The Do’s and Don’ts for Effective Purchasing"

A list of times "When to Negotiate Purchases"

"Questions to Ask When Negotiating"

"Where to Find a Source"

What to do when "Interviewing a Salesperson"

A list of "Purchase Order Terms"

"Requisition Requirements" for efficient buying

"Preparing Requests for Quotations"

"Rules and Secrets for Effective Purchasing Management"

As a member you can also obtain other information on the Society’s Web site at www.american-purchasing.com. Don’t forget there is a units of measure converter on the site that makes it easy and quick to change any measurement. v
